Kajuan Woods, a 36-year-old resident of Brooklyn, New York, has been sentenced to 47 months in prison followed by three years of supervised release. This sentence was handed down by Chief United States District Judge Christina Reiss after Woods pleaded guilty to possessing fentanyl with the intent to distribute.
The case against Woods began on January 19, 2024, when law enforcement executed a search warrant at an apartment in Burlington as part of a drug trafficking investigation. Woods was found with nearly ten grams of fentanyl and over $1,100 in cash. The search also uncovered seven handguns within the apartment.
In another incident on May 12, 2024, officers from the South Burlington Police Department found Woods in a vehicle with suspected cocaine and stolen items. He initially provided a false name to the officers.
On June 4, 2024, Burlington Police responded to reports of a man threatening a woman with a firearm. Upon locating Woods and attempting detention, he fled but was eventually apprehended. Officers discovered more suspected cocaine and firearms-related items during this encounter.
Acting United States Attorney Michael P. Drescher praised the efforts of local law enforcement agencies involved in the case. “Individuals who possess distribution quantities of deadly controlled substances…pose a danger to the communities where they sell drugs,” stated Drescher.
Assistant United States Attorney Nicole Cate prosecuted the case while Chandler Matson represented Woods.
This prosecution is part of Project Safe Neighborhoods (PSN), which aims to reduce violent crime and gun violence through collaboration between law enforcement and communities.
