Noor Mohamed, a 25-year-old resident of Burlington, Vermont, has been charged with being a felon in possession of ammunition. The United States Attorney’s Office for the District of Vermont announced the charges following an incident on Church Street in Burlington. Mohamed is currently held by the State of Vermont, and his initial federal court appearance is pending.

Court records indicate that on June 21, 2025, around 2:00 a.m., Mohamed caused a disturbance involving a firearm. Officers from the Burlington Police Department attempted to detain him, but he resisted and reached for a loaded firearm in his waistband. This led to a struggle between Mohamed and law enforcement officers over the weapon. During this altercation, an agitated crowd gathered around the officers. Eventually, police managed to handcuff Mohamed and secure the gun—a Glock-style handgun with scratched-off serial numbers loaded with thirteen rounds.

The U.S. Attorney’s Office noted that these are allegations and emphasized that Mohamed is presumed innocent until proven guilty. If convicted, he could face up to 15 years in prison; however, sentencing would be guided by advisory guidelines and statutory factors.

Acting United States Attorney Michael P. Drescher praised the responding officers for their bravery during the incident despite facing resistance and crowd agitation. He stated: “The responding Burlington Police officers demonstrated bravery and skill by safely disarming Mr. Mohamed.” Drescher also acknowledged the investigative efforts of both the Burlington Police Department and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives.

Interim Chief Shawn Burke of the Burlington Police Department commented on the risks faced by officers: “This incident highlights the dangers our officers face and their selfless commitment to keeping Burlington safe.”

Assistant United States Attorney Nicole Cate is prosecuting this case. Information regarding legal representation for Mohamed has not been disclosed.

This case falls under Operation Take Back America, an initiative aimed at combating illegal immigration and transnational criminal organizations while protecting communities from violent crime.
